Doina (Maravela) Moss
Artist and Architect RIBA, ARB, FRSA, based in London
Doina, an artist whose architectural training informs her distinct visual style, has navigated the intersection of artistic endeavour and spontaneity in her art from an early age. Rooted in a foundation of meticulous artistic architectural presentations, her evolution into the realms of drawing and painting represents a seamless manipulation of artistic language.
Residing near the historic Hampton Court in London, Doina finds herself perpetually inspired by the rich, atmospheric landscapes of the area. Since 2016, she has revitalised her exploration of oil painting, driven by a passion for the Impressionist philosophy. This approach is vividly evident in her en plein air works, capturing the ethereal beauty of the Thames, Richmond and Bushy Parks, as well as the diverse locations she encounters during her travels.
Her style, a fusion of neo-impressionist sensibilities and abstract experimentation, often incorporates classical compositional elements, creating focal points that draw the viewer into a meditative engagement with the landscape.
Doina's art captures the fleeting essence of the present moment through sumptuous brushstrokes and the rich, textured layering of oil paints. Her work evokes a timeless dialogue, reminiscent of the Old Masters, yet firmly anchored in contemporary aesthetics. She masterfully portrays the illusion of movement, extracting the sublime from her subjects and offering viewers a portal through which to experience the transient beauty of time and space.
Dedicated to producing artworks that soothe and inspire, Doina's compositions are imbued with balance and harmony, offering a respite from the anxieties of modern life. Her continual experimentation with new techniques reflects a dynamic process of invention and mastery, always pushing the boundaries of her creative expression.
Since her debut at the Salon des Refusés in 2017, Doina's career has flourished with exhibitions in prestigious museums and international venues. Her works are treasured in private collections and prominent institutions across Houston Texas, New York, London, Paris, Bucharest (including a museum), Galati, Targu Mures, Brasov, Cluj.
Doina is represented by Leigh Gallery in Hampton and The Beach 197 in Richmond Borough, London, as well as Saatchi Gallery and Artboxy online.
From 2020, Doina has been an associate member of the UAP Galati (Uniunea Artistilor Plastici), contributing to their renowned Salons at their Art Gallery with her evocative paintings.
